Brigham, Molina a Winning Pair Again

Chris Brigham and Peg Molina again conquered large Roxbury fields, a repeat performance of the results of a month ago, the last time they both won.

Peg Molina had to come from behind to win it this time. First, Pam Quist, running her rookie race of the season, led at 3/4 mile, at the top of Chalybes Road.  That was a little fast and a little early for her, though, and Kimberly Thompson slithered past her to take a substantial lead.  Just before the two mile mark, though, she started hearing footsteps getting closer and closer, as Molina stalked her and finally went past her with about a mile to go.  Thompson couldn't put together a big kick, so Molina went on to a 21 second lead.

The margin was almost the same for the men, but the story couldn't be more different.  Chris Brigham was still within sight of the starting line when he took the lead.  Mark Chantry tried to stay with him, but he got cooked within half a mile.  Meanwhile, the Old Fossil, Ed Sandifer, started out about 15th, and slowly worked his way through the pack into second place, where he finished 18 seconds behind Brigham, about the same distance back he had been at the mile mark.

Julia Gancher crossed the finish line on her own feet for the first time ever, much to the thrill of the crowd, who clapped and cheered so loudly it kind of frightened the little girl.
