Merrick and Quist - a New Dynamic Duo

Different week.  Different course. Same winners.  For the second week in a row, Ken Merrick and Pam Quist won their respective divisions at the Roxbury Road Race.

At the three mile mark, after the grueling climb up Squire Road, then Apple Lane, the Old Fossil, Ed Sandifer, running one of his best races of the year, clung to a ten yard lead.  It was only an illusion, though, as Merrick lurked like a panther, just waiting to use his speed and young legs on the downhill to come.  The Fossil didn't fade; Merrick just turned up the heat a little bit and pulled away gradually, adding about ten seconds to his lead each of the last two miles to grab a 16 second win.

Pam Quist and her competition Kyle Gancher were close most of the way, but Pam held on to win by a little over half a minute.  Kyle's son, Nate Beatty, who a dozen years ago was doing these races in a stroller, finished just 18 seconds behind his mom this week.
