QUALITY TOPS QUANTITY AT WET NIGHT OF MILES
The threat of storms and a rainy day kept the numbers down
for the first of two "Night of Miles" races at the Litchfield Plumb Hill Track
on Tuesday night. The runners that showed didn't let the raindrops and humidity bother
them as three age-group records were set during the evening. The actual distance was the
English mile as opposed to the metric mile run in high school meets.
Eric Zoldy of Watertown set the stage in the youth
competition as he knocked 33 seconds off the 9 & Under record of Cal McKenna, set in
2007.
Annmarie Tuxbury (New Hartford) added another record to her
list (she holds the 13-15 mark of 5:18), as she eclipsed the 16-18 record of 5:40, set by
Amanda Sumner in 2008. Annmarie's time of 5:15.76 is also the fastest female time ever in
the series.
The third mark was set by Sharon runner Marge DeMarris in
the 40-49 age group as she lowered her own record of a year ago from 5:41 to 5:24.31.
The next "Night of Miles" will be held on
Thursday, August 26th at 6:30pm. Entry fee is $2.00.
